The papers of California painter, printmaker, and art instructor Dorr Bothwell date from 1900-2006, and measure 10.6 linear feet and 1.72 GB. Found within the papers are biographical material, correspondence, personal business records, notes and writings, five diaries, art work and 19 sketchbooks, three scrapbooks, printed material, and print and digital photographs.

The records of the Washington, D.C. arts and educational organization, Institute of Contemporary Arts, measure 36 linear feet and date from 1927-circa 1985, with the bulk of the material spanning the organization's active years, 1947-1967. The collection documents the arts and cultural programming organized by the ICA through correspondence, artists' files, program and exhibition files, administrative and financial records, printed materials and photographs. Also found are administrative, student, and teacher records of the ICA school; records of the Fine Arts Committee of the People-to-People Project; and some personal papers of the ICA's founder, Robert Richman.

An exhibition of New Orleans photographer J. Nash Porter's portraits of the Mardi Gras Indians, capturing them at close range and documenting their "true essence" and "cultural flavor" from an insider's point of view. The exhibit, held at the museum from April 23, 2006 - October 15, 2006, featured more than 40 images documenting the rich tradition of New Orleans' Mardi Gras Indians including the construction of suits (handmade costumes), practices, second liners, and other participants in this urban folk street ritual. On display also were full Mardi Gras Indian suits and beaded patches. For more than 35 years, Porter (1942-2007) documented the masking traditions and community support of the Black Mardi Gras Indians. These records include correspondence and video footage.

The papers of curator Philip Brookman measure 3.5 linear feet and date from 1977 to 1993. The collection documents Brookman's exhibition, writing, and filmmaking projects in the form of artist files, exhibition files, professional files, and subject and research files. Much of the material concerns the production and distribution of Brookman's 1988 video documentary about Chicano art in California, Mi Otro Yo (My Other Self), that grew out of the exhibition and conference "Califas: An Exhibition of Chicano Art and Culture in California," held at University of California, Santa Cruz in 1981 and 1982.

The papers of feminist, conceptual, video, and performance artist Ilene Segalove measure 4.4 linear feet and 6.06 gigabytes and date from 1964 to 2017. The collection contains a small amount of biographical material including resumes, certificates, and address lists; correspondence with family and friends; writings; and teaching files from the University of California, Santa Barbara. The bulk of the collection consists of project and exhibition files for both solo works and works in collaboration with Lowell Darling, and printed material. Also included are photographic materials such as snapshots of exhibition openings and slides of artwork; and artwork, primarily artist notebooks and video art.

An exhibition examining the faith and spiritual traditions in African American religious life in the 1990s. The exhibition features members of Christian churches as well as those of other faiths. Special attention is given to the ways that African American congregations are responding to contemporary challenges affecting their families, neighborhoods, and communities. Curated by Gail Lowe, the show wa displayed in the Smithsonian Arts & Industries Building from May 1998 to December 1999.

White's career as an artist is documented through scattered biographical material, correspondence with family and friends, poetry, plays, exhibition catalogs, news clippings, source material, photographs and digital photographs of White, family, friends, and artwork.
